Dry frizzy hair is something that we all struggle with at one point or another. Dry hair leads to split ends, frizz and breakage and makes the hair look lifeless.
Common reasons are: Over washing our hair, using hair tools (dryer, flat iron or curling iron) on a daily basis and environmental factors.
However, you don't have to go to the salon often and spend hundreds of dollar, when you can have great results using natural ingredients that are hanging around in your kitchen. You can make your own hair masks at home which can help you nourish and repair damaged hair.

Here's a list of 4 easy hair masks that you can do at home:

  1. Avocado, Banana, Egg & Olive Oil and  Hair Mask

Avocado is excellent for treating damaged hair and adding shine and body to it. It's rich in fatty amino acids which provide your hair with deep hydration and help it retain moisture. With vitamins and minerals such as copper, iron, vitamin A, B6, D, and E, avocado deeply nourishes your hair and scalp and promotes hair growth.

Bananas are rich in potassium, natural oils, carbohydrates and vitamins which protect the hair's elasticity and prevent split ends. They're also great for dandruff as they will add hydration and antioxidants into your hair.
(Important: People who have latex-fruit allergies should avoid applying bananas topically.)

Eggs are power-packed with proteins, minerals, and B-complex vitamins which strengthen hair and prevent hair loss.

Olive oil
preserves moisture and helps to decrease friction, detangle the hair, and minimize frizz.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil

How to use:

Put the avocado, banana, egg and olive oil in a blender until you're left with a homogeneous mixture (with no clumps). Section your hair and apply the mask to clean damp hair. Use a shower cap and leave in for 20-30 minutes (or longer). Then shampoo and condition as usual.

  2. Yogurt and Honey Hair Mask

Natural Yogurt is full of protein that strengthens the hair and makes it healthier. Calms frizzy hair and keeps it hydrated for longer. It also contains fat that moisturizes your hair and makes for a great natural conditioner. When applied to the scalp reduces the clogging of the hair follicles due to its lactic acid content. Has a cooling effect and balances the pH of your scalp. It's great for oily hair types to regulate sebum production.

Honey is a humectant and emollient - it attracts and retains moisture in your hair. Helps to soften and smoothen. Full of vitamins (rich antioxidant properties), prevents damage and it’s also skin food for your scalp (strengthens the hair follicles).

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons honey

How to use:

Mix yogurt and honey well together. Start applying the mixture from the roots to the ends of your hair while massaging the scalp. Put on a shower cap and leave the mask on for 20 minutes. Wash as usual.

  3. Mayonnaise Hair Mask

Mayonnaise contains egg yolks, vinegar, and oils that can boost shine, nourish and moisturize the hair and scalp. It helps seal the hair’s cuticle which will reduce frizz and will leave you with softer smoother feeling hair.

Ingredients:

  • Mayonnaise depending on the length of your hair
  • You can add some olive oil

How to use:

Dampen your hair. Start by applying the mayonnaise from the roots (those with oily scalps can avoid the roots and start mid length) and spread to the ends using a wide toothed comb. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes and wash your hair afterwards.

  4. Coconut Oil, Egg and Milk Hair Mask

Coconut Oil - rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, with antifungal and antibacterial properties. Has been shown to stimulates hair growth by getting deep into the hair follicles. It increases the hair's moisture retention and reduces protein loss, by preventing hair breakage. Improves hair texture, softens it and makes it shinier.

Eggs and milk contain proteins and vitamins to nourish and strengthen the hair structure. Milk has lactic acid - helps exfoliate and remove debris and make hair softer.

Ingredients:

  • 2 T cup organic coconut oil, melted
  •  1 egg, whisked (with the yolk)
  •  1/4 cup whole milk

How to use:

Whisk the egg with the milk in the same bowl. Combine them with (melted) coconut oil and mix well. Proceed with applying the mask on damp or dry hair. Since this is a watery mask it would be ideal to apply it with a small brush. Leave it in for 15 minutes and then shampoo and condition your hair as usual.
